May day

The owner of her namesake boutique, Eva May has one of those infectious dispositions that makes visiting the shop a cheery experience. May attributes her sunny demeanor to what she wears: “I really feel different wearing something handmade rather than something mass-produced,” she says. Lucky for us, we can get a similar high by visiting May at this crafty new Andersonville spot filled with her handmade wares. The shop is stocked with silk-screened shirts and hand-shaped hats ($35–$56), as well as scarves and handbags ($40–$200). In addition to her own designs, May also carries jewelry ($30–$170) from local metalsmiths Mary Laskey, Molly Bitters, Weenerware and others. The selection here should easily help you knock off a few names on your holiday shopping list—yet another reason to be happy. 5643 N Ashland Ave between Hollywood and Olive Aves (773-907-0709, evamay.com).
