Keep your thumb on the pulse of the next big things as the top student designers from local design schools show off their designs on the runway. The show is free, but you must R.S.V.P. at chicagofashionresource.com to attend.

A Fashion Performance
Claudia Cassidy Theater, Chicago Cultural Center; Sunday 5 at 7pm

Perfect for... Ladies who lunch—and those who wish they could have access to the ladies’ bank accounts
Let’s face it: Very few of us have the budget for high-end designs, but it never hurts to look, right? Expect one-of-a-kind looks by big-name designers such as Maria Pinto and Nick Cave, who is also producing the event. R.S.V.P. for the free show at chicagofashionresource.com.

Macy’s Presents The Designers of Chicago
Chase Promenade North at Millennium Park; Tuesday 7 at 7:30pm
Perfect for... Patience-challenged customers who want to buy clothes right off the runway
This department store likes attaching itself to big names—see its commercials with Mariah Carey, Tim Gunn and Martha Stewart for proof—and this year, its free show features local hotshots like Lara Miller. Many of the lines from the show will also be sold at the State Street store. R.S.V.P. at chicagofashionresource.com.
