Thread bare After whetting our appetites with her occasional pop-up shop, Colleen Schmidt-Goodrich is permanently parking her sample sale in a sprawling 4,400-square-foot space in Lincoln Park. Sample, overstock and regular production pieces marked 25–75 percent off the retail price arrive in daily shipments from more than 375 lines of men’s, women’s and children’s clothing and accessories (including five labels by the owner herself). “The worse the economy gets, the better it gets for me,” says Schmidt-Goodrich, “and as [the economy] gets better, we’ll continue to grow.” Indeed, with two permanent shops in California and ten more slated to launch across the country, business must be good. 918 W Armitage Ave (415-269-3557, threadlounge.com).
