Strike a pose
Yes, yoga's been around for years, but thanks to the abundance of new studios in the past 12 months, we're calling 2009 the year of yoga.

Tejas Yoga
(1133 S Wabash Ave, suite 101, 312-386-9642, tejasyogachicago.com)
According to co-owner (and instructor) Jim Bennitt, this South Loop coed studio stands out from other yoga centers in the city because of its focus on breath work and meditation. We agree, but one class in particular also gives Tejas the edge: The Wednesday night men’s yoga session focuses on areas where guys need extra attention, such as their tight hips and shoulders.
Akemi Fitness Method
(518½ Davis St, Evanston, 847-332-1700, akemifitness.com)
Okay, so this technically isn’t a yoga studio, but it does incorporate yoga in its classes (along with Pilates, dance and core work). That means when you show up for a session at this Evanston studio, you’re incorporating all four methods and using a ballet barre to shape, sculpt and tone every key muscle group. In this age of ADD, it’s nice to have a variety of methods in one class.
Yogaview
(1745 W Division St, 773-342-9642, yogaview.com)
Located in the old Ruby Room yoga studio, the second Yogaview locale features all the fabulous classes (prenatal, beginner, ashtanga, vinyasa and more) you’d expect plus at least one or two workshops a month. Best of all: The studio offers pay-what-you-can for every class.
Core Power Yoga
(12 W Maple St, 312-266-9642, corepoweryoga.com)
The second Chicago outpost of this yoga studio franchise (the other resides in the South Loop) has a new ’hood of yogis hooked on hard-core hot yoga classes. Plus, as the studio’s name suggests, each class includes an ab-specific segment to help you firm your midsecton.
Moksha Logan Square
(2528 W Armitage Ave, suite 202, 312-942-9642, mokshayoga.com)
Logan Square yogis can finally exhale, thanks to the arrival of this gorgeous hardwood-floored, paper-lantern-adorned studio. Based on the upstanding reputation of its two other locations in River West and Lakeview, not to mention the renowned teacher-training program, the studio is sure to develop an immediately devoted following.
