COMPETITION Girls on the Run Charity Bags Tournament

Background Played cornhole during tailgates at Michigan State. “I was never drunk!” claims Schultz.
Winning tactic The occasional overhand. “It distracts people,” Schultz says. “That’s really what wins the game.”




ZACH WACHS
Background Won organized cornhole tournaments and many a backyard game in Ohio.
Winning tactic “I adapt quickly. Every bag and board is different. If you can’t keep up, you’re in the hole—no pun intended,” Wachs says.

COMPETITION Battle of the Badges, a fund-raising cops vs. firefighters boxing match


ERNIE FUENTES
Background Studied martial arts and was trained by fellow firefighter and former pro boxer, Al Ortiz.
Winning tactic Strong jab and speed. “These quick matches tend to be brawls where guys go out swinging, but I’m going to use technique,” Fuentes says.




BARRY CUNNINGHAM
Background This cop has been boxing for exercise for three years.
Winning tactic “I’ve known Ernie for about ten years,” Cunningham says. “I have a pretty good idea of how he fights. I’m gonna try to score points with a left hook.”

AL GIELICZ
Background Involved in Quiz Night since 1999, played intramural in college, huge Jeopardy fan
Winning tactic “I get young and old people on my team,” says Gielicz, an expert in science, history and geography. “It covers topics I’m not good at.”




PATRICK KELLY
Background Competed in Quiz Night for about five years, plays Trivial Pursuit
Winning tactic Correctly answer the final question, which constitutes almost 25 percent of the points. “You get it wrong then you’re in trouble,” says Kelly, “but you can move up otherwise. That’s the fun part.”
