Ballot vox Local government officials didn’t get down with youth hip-hop performers, like Passion, when they appeared on CAN TV’s Elma and Company, a show on cable-access Channel 19. But in between acts they tried to get people down with voting, focusing on November 7, when voters will elect, among others, the governor, attorney general and state senators. “You need access and…choice, and you can’t get that without voting,” says Norma Reyes, commissioner of the city’s department of consumer services. The episode airs Thursday 5 at 1pm. Register to vote by Tuesday 10 at any Chicago Public Library or visit chicagoelections.com; the site lists candidates and early voting locations.—Leah Pietrusiak
