Horror stories

We asked three local authors to scare up terrifying tales for our Halloween issue. The results feature a freakily precocious baby, a vengeful ox and a teacher who finds herself alone with her scariest student. Read at your own risk.

Ghost stations: They say kids drive you crazy, but for one Lincoln Park mom, that rings a little too true.
Vaara in the woods: For lumberjacks in rural Wisconsin, revenge is a snarling, bloodthirsty ox returned from the dead.
A brief moment of terror at MLK Junior High School: A troubled student stays after class; he’s got a surprise for the new teacher.

Behind the screams: From an actor playing a psycho prisoner to a makeup expert who creates gruesome ghouls, these people give local haunted houses an extra-petrifying punch.
Fear factor: Everyone knows that rats are creepy...but are they scarier than clowns? Cast your vote in our online poll.
