THE ATM EATS YOUR CARD

If you’re not close to a branch, call and cancel the card, advises Chase Bank spokeswoman Christine Holevas. If you are close to your bank, drop in, whip out a picture ID, and they’ll look up your account and issue an ATM card. It won’t be a debit card—that will come in the mail— but it’ll allow you to get cash. Provided you’re not stupid enough to return to that faulty ATM.

An ounce of prevention Jamming the card into a stuffed wallet and sitting on it all day can warp the card and cause it to get stuck in an ATM. Ladies, same deal with leaving your card in your purse next to gooey stuff like hair spray, cough medicine or makeup.
