TORTURED MODELS
Being a cover model isn’t always about sitting pretty. We’ve put some through the wringer. For our 2007 “Summer reading” cover, we made the model stand in Lake Michigan…in May. She wore a wet suit under her dress. The model for our 2008 Weddings cover rode a mechanical bull for hours and could barely walk the next day. For the 2009 Free Issue, our associate art director had FREE shaved into the back of his head: Later, we discovered our camera card had corrupted the photos. Much to our colleague’s dismay, we had to hire someone else to have FREE shaved into his head. So there were two dudes walking around Chicago with similarly freaky haircuts.
