Aug 27–29, 2010
FRIDAY 27
Chicago Dancing Festival Not only is this week of free dance performances on par with the best of the country’s galas, it’s uniquely choreography-based, rather than presentations of whatever is up and running when companies are invited to perform. Harris Theater, Museum of Contemporary Art and Pritzker Pavilion (chicagodancingfestival.com). Free. Aug 26–28.—Zachary Whittenberg
Date Night Architecture River Cruise Don’t let your river-plying date night get ruined by a cabal of screeching, fanny-pack wearing tourists. Jump aboard these tours, made to accommodate locals looking for a romantic spot to drink and unwind after work. Meet at Michigan Avenue Bridge at Wacker Dr (312-922-3432, architecture.org). Thu and Fri at 5:30pm, running Jun 3–Sept 30. $32.—Madeline Nusser
SATURDAY 28
New alfresco: Folklore Head to Tango Sur’s Wicker Park outpost and soak up the sun at one of the 30 tables on Division Street’s double-wide sidewalk while indulging in the massive griddle of meats and offal—with a mojito, of course. 2100 W Division St (773-292-1600).—Julia Kramer
Bucktown Arts Fest (August 28, 29)
Taste of Greece (August 28, 29)
SUNDAY 29
Wicker Park tour It’s hard to imagine the Northwest Side ’nabe having anything but legions of hipster bars, restos, boutiques, Victorian manses and quaint apartments. On this new Chicago Architecture Foundation tour, learn about its roots as a home for wealthy citizens displaced by the Chicago Fire, its fall into disrepair in the 1970s and its subsequent gentrification. Meet by the statue in Wicker Park (Damen Ave at LeMoyne St; 312-922-3432, architecture.org) at 1pm. May 23, Jun 27, Jul 25, Aug 29, Sept 26, Oct 24. $15, seniors and students $10, CAF members free.—Madeline Nusser
