A very steampunk Christmas? Behind-the-scenes at Macy's new holiday windows
Is it too late to start planning for Christmas? Not if you're Macy's. They're putting together their yearly holiday window displays as we speak, and they let our photographer come take some shots of the process. As you can see, many of the glittery, intricate pieces have already been created—now it's just a matter of putting them all together in animatronic harmony. This year's theme is "The Wish Factory," and is a collaboration with the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Macy's is describing the style of the installation as "traditional-Victorian-meets-technology...(also known as 'Steam Punk')." Which is...amazing. As you'd expect from that description, there are a lot of gears and elaborate old-timey hats involved. Pretty sure there's a dirigible in the mix, too.
The Macy's windows officially "go live" on the morning of Nov 5th, the same day as the big tree-lighting ceremony.
