TOC poll: Should Chicago get the 2016 Olympics? (Billy Dec thinks so.)

Did you know Billy Dec is on the Chicago 2016 bid committee's payroll as "director of cultural relations"? En route to Copenhagen for Friday's International Olympic Committee vote on a host city for the Olympics, the perpetually be-hatted nightlife entrepreneur has been starfucking his way around the world, conducting interviews on "how amazing it would be to have the Olympics here in 2016" (as Dec puts it on his site, achicagothing.com) with any celeb who will give him a minute of his or her time.

Dec's clusterfucky website is overloaded with embedded video of Dec chewing the Olympic fat with everyone from Jimmy Fallon to Frankie Muniz. Before my browser crashed for a third time, I got a chance to watch his interview with his friend (heh heh) David Schwimmer, co-founder of the Lookingglass Theatre where Dec happens to be a board member. Dec and Schwimmer attended the Beijing Olympics together—Dec calls the trip research on whether Chicago would be right to host the Olympics. And it turns out, we are! Why? Dec gives us one reason while narrating a clip of he and Schwimmer at a women's volleyball game in Beijing. The crowd is singing in Chinese and—oh, no—Billy and David are confused! "I think if we had the Olympics," Dec says, "we would be able to understand what everyone was saying and could join in instead of being this poopy-pants like [Schwimmer] who was totally not into it." Today, Dec sent a mass e-mail urging all recipients to spam their contacts with his website full of fluff interviews. "It's all about videos of... Jeremy Piven & I on the 'Entourage' set filming a scene together & talking about how great Chicago would be as an Olympic Host city, and dozens of other celebrity friends like Jimmy Fallon, Jamie Foxx, Kate Walsh, George Lopez, Dan Aykroyd, John Legend, Rachael Ray, Andy Roddick, Tracy Morgan, David Cook… and many more." Get it, people? Billy Dec knows a lot of famous people! And if Billy Dec's famous friends say we should get the Olympics, it must be a good thing. Right? Right?!?
