All Tomorrow's Art Parties, Sept 25–27
There are more than 150 Art & Design events happening this weekend, according to our listings. (See our slide show above for a sneak peek of this weekend’s new shows.) Here are some events that didn’t make it into the print edition. Unless otherwise noted, they're free.
Tonight from 6–9pm in West Town, ebersb9 opens a “Group Painting Show,” which includes work by Amy Mayfield, Howard Fonda,Tyson Reeder, Sebastian Vallejo, and Paul Wackers), “loosely conveying a similar conversation in abstraction as well as the abstracted form,” according to the gallery. At the end of this exhibition, the gallery is moving to a new location (TBA) and changing its name to ebersmoore.
In the Chicago Arts District, which hosts the 39th Annual Pilsen East Artists Open House this weekend, within (Reason) teams up with Firebelly Design for a show benefiting the Hope Library in Nairobi, Kenya, and Firebelly's Reason to Give foundation. The opening is from 6–10pm, Friday. From 7–10pm, Vespine celebrates its seventh anniversary with “Seven,” which features work by founders Leah Mayers, Shawn Sheehy, Doug Thome and Jamie Lou Thome.
Dutch artist Berry Sanders presents “Tales from the Bubble” at Co-Prosperity Sphere in Bridgeport from 6pm–1am tonight. At 9pm tonight, a release party ($5) for art journal Proximity begins, with performances by Magical Beautiful, Christo Mofisto, The Gaze and DJ Hunter Husar.
In Wicker Park, Heaven Gallery hosts “Notice—Closed,” an exhibition of prints by Jeremy Lundquist and artists from Spudnik Press, from 7–10pm Friday night.
On Saturday 26, Wicker Park’s Scott Projects opens “Double Dutch” from 6–10pm, highlighting work by Liam Crockard, Ben Schumacher and Hugh Scott-Douglas. In Logan Square, Lana Crooks shows cute plush sculptures in “Trophy” at OhNo!Doom from 6–10pm.
Sunday 27, from noon–5pm, Dutes Miller and Stan Shellabarger present Untitled Performance (Pink Tube) at the Chicago Cultural Center as part of the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs’ IN>TIME Performance Series.
