Things to do this weekend: June 19-21
FRIDAY 19
NIGHTLIFE - Branded: Rapture DJs, Heartsrevolution, The Rub
Industreate and Trash Menagerie take over the whole of the Congress Theater for the latest edition in their Branded series and stack it with more talent than most clubs see in a month. NYC disco act the Rapture gets top billing even though it's only rocking the ones and twos tonight. Also in the mix: electro sensation Heartsrevolution, DJ tricksters the Rub, Juke man DJ Funk, Guns N' Bombs, Go Bang's Jordan Z and the debut of up-and-comer Death Face. Overflowing into the lobby, DJs Rob Threezy, Kid Color, Gatekeeper, Black Holes and Thunderous Olympian each hold it down over the course of the night.
Congress Theater. 7pm. $19, $16 in advance.
MUSIC - X
The recent announcement that X singer Exene Cervenka has been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis is, of course, a total drag, and we wish her the best. But if there’s any silver lining to be found in the bad news, it comes with watching the legendary L.A. band in action, as formidable as ever, illness and middle age be damned. It was always tighter and smarter than its peers, and in that regard, little has changed since the group’s early-’80s heyday. Double Door, 9pm, $25.
COMEDY - Green Room with Paul Provenza
Comic maven Provenza hosts late-night chatter with the legends at this Just for Laughs after-hours show. Annoyance Theatre, 4830 N Broadway (773-561-4665). El: Red to Lawrence. Bus: 36, 81. Midnight, $10.
FILM - 24 CityA munitions factory is closing to make way for an apartment complex. Chinese director Jia pushes the edges of documentary, with actors playing composites of real people. Gene Siskel Film Center, 7:45pm.
THEATER- Poseidon! An upside-down musical
Handbag's parody-slash-homage to 1974 disaster flick The Poseidon Adventure, first seen in 2002, gets a remount with new songs and script revisions by playwright David Cerda. Chopin Theatre, final preview tonight at 8pm, $15.

NIGHTLIFE - Trus'me
Breaking on to the scene in a big way thanks to hotly-tipped releases on Chicago's Still Music, Trus'me makes a rare appearance at the near South Side's foremost Mexican-eatery-turned-nightclub. Based in Manchester, Trus'me heads stateside on the regular for his global party brand Disco 3000, which has a residency in New York (and more to come across the States). Tonight, he's been invited to join DJs Aaron Dae and Cuatro's Saturday resident DJ FLX for a genre-defying romp through house, boogie, techno, disco, hip-hop, soul and funk. Cuatro. 10pm. $10.
AROUND TOWN/SPORTS & RECREATION - Race for the Kids
If the satisfaction of crossing the finish line isn’t enough motivation to get you to sign up for a race, certainly the knowledge that a child at Children’s Memorial Hospital will benefit from your participation should do the trick. The 5K follows the lakefront path and includes live music, refreshments, activities and awards. Sign up ahead of time in person at Running Away (1634 W North Ave) on Fri 19 from 2–6pm or online at childrensmemorial.org/raceforthekids since there’s no race-day registration available.
