appwatscaxThe Art & Design listings are off the hook this week—get a sneak peek at what's opening this weekend in our Art openings slideshow. Here are a few events that didn’t make it into print. Except for Cocktails & Clay (donations suggested), they're FREE.

Seattle artist Lou Cabeen's map-based project "Cartographies of the Unseen” (pictured) opens tonight at Pilsen's Vespine from 7–10pm. At the Hyde Park Art Center's monthly shindig Cocktails & Clay, you can play with clay, see “Artists Run Chicago" and enjoy performances by DJ Itchy and Same Planet Different World from 8pm–midnight.

On Saturday 13 from 6–9pm, Roots & Culture Contemporary Art Center hosts a reception for “My News Is Bad News,” which showcases new work by printmakers Ryan Duggan, Alex Valentine and Carrie Vinarsky.

On Sunday 14 at 2pm, join artists Jim Nutt and Gladys Nilsson, and art historian Dennis Adrian at the Smart Museum for a conversation about H.C. Westermann. The Smart's Westermann retrospective "Your Pal, Cliff" is one of the best shows I've seen this year.
