FLATFILEgalleries closing March 27

Posted in #Chicago blog by Lauren Weinberg on Mar 3, 2009 at 3:31pm

The Chicago Reader's Deanna Isaacs reports that FLATFILEgalleries is closing due to financial concerns, and that another West Loop gallery, Rowland Contemporary, shut down in December. FLATFILE got a lot of attention during the past few years for hosting Wafaa Bilal's brilliant, boundary-pushing projects Domestic Tension and Virtual Jihadi, in which the Iraqi-born artist used the conventions of video games to critique the war. (Read our story about Virtual Jihadi here.) The gallery's current shows of work by Lucy Slivinski and Stephanie Dean have received strong reviews and there's plenty more on display: Get over there fast.
