New Watchmen trailer
The above trailer will be shown before Quantum of Solace this weekend. So perhaps that will motivate folks who've been put off by the film's middling reviews.
I've been against the idea of slicking-up the look of Watchmen, and making it look shiny and buff like every other superhero film of the last ten years or so. Part of the statement Alan Moore made in the original book requires a rundown, has-been look of the heroes.
But I think I've since come around to the notion - put forward by others - that by making the film look like its predecessors, it helps keep the spirit of deconstruction that was so much a part of the original work. Not sure that it will carry through the film, but I'm open to the possibility.
Also, as Books editor Jonathan Messinger just put it "At least this new trailer is sans Smashing Pumpkins, which is a step in the right direction."
Worth checking out if you're a fan is Watching the Watchmen by Dave Gibbons with Chip Kidd & Mike Essl.
