Doing the nasty with yellow squash

Posted in #Chicago blog by Debby Herbenick on Oct 29, 2008 at 9:44am

As you may know from my "Debby does produce" article about how you might (or might avoid) using food for sex play, people do a lot of creative things with food aside from eating it or making eclectic cruise-ship style garnishes with it. Some women and men do the nasty with it.

Case in point: in this year's TOC Sex Survey, we asked women and men what they got up to with their food items. Nearly half of you (47%) have used whipped cream for your sex play and more than a third of you (37%) have involved chocolate. A total of 34% of you had put champagne, beer or other adult beverages on your own or your partner's body and one in five of you (20%) played with berries in bed. Less often was peanut butter involved (only 4%) of you or fruit juice (3%) - and, as you might find in our article about sex tips from local food-store workers - there are much less messy ways to make sex tasty aside from using juice. (One of my favorite tips came from a woman at Trader Joe's - it involved using orange zest).

We asked the ladies about their experience using produce in place of sex toys - the largest percentage (14%) had put a cucumber you-know-where followed by 8% who had used a banana, 7% who had gotten intimate with a carrot, 4% with zucchini or yellow squash, and 1% with corn on the cob.

As for the men, there were fewer produce players in the bunch: 4% had used a banana peel as a masturbation sleeve/pocket pussy, 2% had inserted themselves into a watermelon or cantaloupe, 1% had gone for a fruit pie and another 1% had gone for a papaya.

Believe it or not, several of these produce issues have come up in past issues of my weekly In&Out column (see the archives for more info). If you have sex questions of your own, hit me up at inandout at timeoutchicago.com.
