Who's in first?

Chicago is! In addition to enjoying the glorious spring weather this week, both Cubs and Sox fans can bask in the glow that only comes around when your squad sits atop the standings (notwithstanding the Sox two-game skid against the Yankees). Relish in this lightning strike with a couple of events tied to the squads.

This afternoon, if you're near the Loop from noon to 1pm, stop by the James R. Thompson Center (100 West Randolph St) and show some love to White Sox broadcaster Ed Farmer, along with players Carlos Quentin and newly acquired Nick Swisher as they join Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White in promoting the need for organ and tissue donation by signing autographs.

North Side fans can take home a bit of history after the Cubs hoist a commemorative flag in honor of the 10,000th win in franchise history (last night's 7-6 10th inning W over the Rockies). After the Giants, the "lovable losers" are only the second franchise to record that many wins. The 10,000th-win flag, along with the traditional Cubs “W” flag, will go up this afternoon and be flown atop the Wrigley Field scoreboard while the Cubs are on the road. The 10,000th-win flag will be taken down Tuesday, April 29 prior to the night game against the Milwaukee Brewers, autographed by the entire team and put up for auction at the Cubs site beginning April 30. All proceeds will go to Cubs Care.

Enjoy it while you can, Chicago baseball fans. While it's premature to talk up a Red Line World Series, it sure is fun to look down on the rest of the AL and NL Central.
