Did Pharrell steal from Chicago's Everett?

Posted in #Chicago blog by John Dugan on Apr 3, 2008 at 10:03am
This post from dotspotter.com insinuates that super producer Pharrell Williams appropriated music by Peven Everett—whom I once described as Chicago's most prolific artist for his many self-released R&B meets house CDs (not as prolific as Tim Kinsella I should note)—for use on Britney Spear's Blackout album. The track in question, "Sugarfall," seems to bite from a tune on Everett's Studio Confessions album. I'm not completely convinced, even by this video that blends the two. Pharrell haters and the already idiosyncratic Everett will have a field day with this. And Everett may get the industry notice that he's been denied, just not the way he thought he would.
