5 things to do today - Oct 25

Posted in #Chicago blog by Liz Plosser on Oct 25, 2007 at 9:54am

There's plenty of must-see TV on tonight (The Office, Scrubs, 30 Rock), but may we suggest getting off the couch instead? C'mon people, this is what Tivo is for! Here are five fabulous things to do today.

CHECK OUT - Robin Richman Boutique
This Bucktown boutique offers a far better incentive than candy for dressing up this Halloween: Arrive bedecked in your best masquerade getup and enjoy a 15% discount off Robin Richman’s fine selection of threads. You’ll even get some art appreciation in while you’re at it; the shop hosts an exhibition from the Museum of Mourning Photography to get in the ghoulish spirit. Robin Richman, 2108 N Damen Ave between Dickens Ave and Charleston St (773-278-6150). El: Blue to Damen. Bus: 50 Damen, 73 Armitage. Thu 25, 6–9pm.

THEATER - Aloft Aerial Dance
Ghost Stories: Crucible the Musible!
Strange Tree Group’s ridiculous warehouse spoof is The Crucible as Dr. Seuss might write it; watching 25 hipsters in Puritan costumes singing the Eagles’ “Witchy Woman” while a contortionist spins in the air is as comically kinky as anything in town at the moment. Strange Tree Group at Aloft Aerial Dance, 937 N California Ave at Augusta Blvd (773-598-8240). Bus: 52, 66 (24hrs), 70. $13. 8pm.

COMEDY - iO Del Close Theater
Check out the Shock and Awe Review and Hootenanny tonight. If you're familiar with iO, you've been served by Jamie Swise, the tell-it-like-it-is bartender who worked during the days of Del Close. He shares tales tonight at his own Armando—an improv form based on storytelling by a select individual. Namely, Swise.  iO Del Close Theater, 3541 N Clark St between Cornelia and Eddy Sts (773-880-0199). El: Red to Addison. Bus: 22 Clark (24hrs), 152 Addison. 9pm, $8.

CHILL OUT - The Latin School of Chicago
It’s hard to deal with infertility on your own, so Lotus Blossom Consulting is here to help. A special seminar at the Latin School will explore a range of infertility issues, including maximizing insurance benefits, choosing a fertility center, identifying egg donors, providing holistic opportunities and ways to finance treatment. The Latin School of Chicago, 59 W North Blvd at Clark St (to register, call 312-582-6035; latinschool.org). Bus: 22 (24hrs), 36, 72, 134, 151 (24hrs), 156. Thu 25, 6:30–8:30pm. $40.

ART & DESIGN - Columbia College
Opening and Artist’s Talk: “Beate Gütschow: LS/S.” Gütschow will discuss the two photographic series in her solo show, which addresses our idealization of both landscape and city. Museum of Contemporary Photography, Columbia College, 600 S Michigan Ave (312-663-5554, mocp.org). El: Red to Harrison. Bus: 1, 3, X3, 4 (24hrs), X4, 6, 7, 10, 14, 26, 28, 126, 127, 145, 146, 147. 6-8pm. Admission free.
