Watch TOC staffers humiliate themselves - live!
Tonight, I will be at the Schadenfreude Rent Party at Gallery Cabaret (2020 N. Oakley) with our Comedy editor Steve Heisler. I tell you this, not because it makes it easier for my stalker to find me, but because we will be engaged in a war of words with my former compatriots at Chicagoist, the fine folks at Gaper's Block and the charming individuals at the Chicago Reader, live on-stage. And I think you should be there, too.
I've heard various descriptions of how this is supposed to go, but essentially it's a slam, put-down, teardown, free-for-all. Like 8 Mile, but with more white people. Frankly, I don't think any of us are as prepared for this as we should be. So this should be a marvelous opportunity to see some of Chicago's nerdiest people fall flat on their faces. If it goes well, you will get to see some of Chicago's nerdiest people insult each other by suggesting that each is nerdier than the other. It'll be like watching the Chess Club in a fight with the Model UN kids.
Seriously, the Schad Rent Party is always a good time, mainly because of the cheap beer. Plus, this is possibly their last show at the fabled Bucktown venue. It's ten bucks to get in ("or whatever your hippie ass can afford," according to Schad's Chief Boot Knocka Justin Kaufmann), but you get free food, lots of entertainment and sketch comedy (see clips at Schad's YouTube site), jokes, and even an appearance by alderman-elect Scott Waugespack.
So be there, and come say hi. Things get started at 8:30 pm at the Gallery Cabaret.
