Growing up, Neve Campbell watched foreign films, not horror flicks, she recently told me in advance of Scream 4's weekend opening. Which seems in keeping with her serious-minded, genuine manner during our phone chat—the same manner that Wes Craven contrasts so effectively against the fun frisson of his Scream flicks. "When I did the first [Scream]," Campbell continued, "I'd only ever seen one horror film. I'd seen The Changeling when I was 13, with George C. Scott, and it terrified me, so I decided then that I wasn't going to watch horror films again. It was on the second Scream that Jada Pinkett Smith heard that I hadn’t seen any of Wes's films and brought me a bunch of them and made me watch them. They're definitely good for a great ride, and they can be lots of fun. I don't watch them by myself under a blanket, though. I have to be in a group."
