Sunday's best bets: Group Doueh and Conrad Freiburg exhibit at Hyde Park Art Center

Group Doueh
MUSIC - Group Doueh
Hailing from the Western Sahara, this longrunning outfit is the brainchild of guitarist Salmou Bamaar, or Doueh, whose fiery leads prod forward a crackling blend of serpentine rock and funk framed by wife Halima Jakani’s Arabic flow. Catch the longrunning group in its Chicago debut. Old Town School of Folk Music, 7pm, $16–$20.
ART & DESIGN - "Conrad Freiburg: It Is What It Isn't"
Today’s your last chance to build and smash your own sculptures using Freiburg’s Self-Contained Unit of Entropy, and to observe the Chicago artist’s 12-foot-tall, pendulum-driven wooden drawing machine. Hyde Park Art Center (5020 S Cornell Ave, 773-324-5520, hydeparkart.org). Noon–5pm. FREE
MUSIC - Califone + Bloodiest
The past few years have been pretty good to Califone, whose ragged junkyard art-blues keeps creeping ever closer to a breakthrough. Still, as much as we're rooting for bigger things for a band this ingenious, we admit it's pretty well suited to cozy clubs like the Bottle, where the magic of its distinctive musical alchemy is laid bare for all to see. Support comes from the avant-metal of Bloodiest (featuring Yakuza's Bruce Lamont). Both Califone and Bloodiest warm up for tonight's show with a free 4pm concert in front of the Logan Square Monument. R.S.V.P. here. Empty Bottle, 9:30pm, $12.
