Saturday's best bets: Fucked Up at Lincoln Hall, Queer Yoga Workshop, Chicago League of Lady Arm Wrestlers

MUSIC - Fucked Up + Jeff the Brotherhood
Canadian punk band Fucked Up has demonstrated a remarkable knack for inciting indie-rock types to care about hardcore. That’s probably because the outfit’s best work brings a symphonic complexity to an often monochromatic genre. Jeff the Brotherhood’s style-sampling punk can be viewed in several ways: as sharpened, gutted psychedelic-rock jams, or as reverb-soaked pop meditations with some blues shuffled in. Whatever you call it, it’s compelling, face-melting stuff. Lincoln Hall, 8pm, $15, all ages.

AROUND TOWN - Chicago League of Lady Arm Wrestlers
Some of the chicks competing for champion arm wrestler are actually roosters in bad wigs and crazy costumes. Audience members resort to bribing refs, judges and contestants for a chance to win prizes in this staged fund-raiser to benefit Sideshow Theatre Company. Doors open at 9:30pm. ART & DESIGN - "Adrian Moens: transmit / transmute"
Moens's performance-art alter ego is a New Age guru who links the human jaw to throat vocalization, and the rhythms of the body and brain. DANCE/GAY & LESBIAN - Queer Yoga Workshop
A.J. Durand launches a five-Saturdays workshop at Yogaview to meet demand for yoga "in a space welcoming to all gender expressions and queer identities…designed to orient queer folks who are curious about yoga to the practice in a safe, supportive and fun environment." MUSIC - American Music Festival
There are countless summer festivals in Chicago but few sure things. The annual American Music Festival at FitzGerald's, however, is one of them, packed with reliable club favorites such as Dave Alvin, the Bottle Rockets and Jon Dee Graham plus local crowd-pleasers (such as Joe Pug and Tributosaurus, the latter doing the Meters/Neville Brothers), with room in between for everything from the Preservation Hall Jazz Band to NRBQ offshoot the Spampinato Brothers. A good time will be had by all. FitzGerald's, noon, $25–$30, three-day pass $75.

NIGHTLIFE - Santiago Salazar + Hakim Murphy + Steve Mizek
Stolen Kisses, the new label from Steve Mizek, who spends his days as the mastermind behind influential website Little White Earbuds, is the center of attention here. Focusing on new explorations in house and techno, the label has tapped local producer Hakim Murphy for its first release, complete with remixes from L.A.'s Santiago Salazar, who also spins tonight. Salazar made his name with influential Detroit label Underground Resistance before he truly struck it big as part of Los Hermanos. The label may be forging new paths, but it hasn't forgotten the people (and sounds) that helped it get here. Smart Bar. 10pm; $13, before midnight $10.
